KNOBIL

KNOBIL is a chanson in french, post-bop and glittering Jazz project created by Louise Knobil, double bass player, singer and composer from Lausanne. Influenced by Esperanza Spalding, Charles Mingus and Boris Vian, she uses her double bass and voice to share her musical diary of polyamory, sleep deprivation and pesto recipes. The artist performs her compositions solo or accompanied by her knodisciples: Chloé Marsigny (bass clarinet) and Vincent Andreae (drums).

Following the release of its first EP, « Or not KNOBIL », in March 2023 (Hout Records), KNOBIL performed at Cully Jazz 2023+24, Montreux Jazz 2024, Paléo 2023, JazzOnze+ 2023, Sunset Sunside 2023+24, Jazz à Vienne 2024 and Le Périscope 2024. The release of a second album entitled « KNOBISOUS » and an international tour are scheduled for autumn 2024.

In addition to numerous concert dates in Switzerland and Europe, KNOBIL has received many awards:

« Lausanne’s most active and creative bassist and singer »

JazzOnze+

« […] music laced with irreverence or a love of jazz bop and rock, poetic lyrics brimming with fantasy or rebellious spikes, the ensemble lacks neither provocative freshness nor refinement. »

Jean-Pierre Jacquot

Jazz-Rhône-Alpes

« Her EP « Or Not Knobil » released in March 2023 on Hout Records revealed a mischievous talent that expresses itself in both English and French, but always on fresh, inventive musical tracks, dancing to playful swing or stretching languorously on tangy ballads. »

Fabrice Gottraux

24heures and Tribune de Genève

« These six tracks emanate a spontaneous freshness. On Universe, which opens the album, we discover the sunny, delicate grain of the artist’s voice, as she spins chords and harmonics with her bass, before the rhythm section kicks in with a powerful groove. The pleasant track Pesto, in which the young woman recounts her love of Italian green sauce, reveals her mischievousness. »

Juliette De Banes Gardonne

Le Temps

« With the bewitching EP « Or Not Knobil », six tracks sung in English and French, Louise Knobil does more than touch jazz neophytes: she propels them into her magnificent parallel universe, as if suspended somewhere between classic jazz and its contemporary notes, sprinkled with funk and rock. Knobil’s sunny, crystalline voice harmonizes brilliantly with the rich rhythm sections and wind instruments, generously distilling her passion and her questions, on fresh, colorful lyrics dealing with queer love as much as overwork. «
